- A Florida police officer, Jared Forsyth, was accidentally shot dead by a colleague during weapons training exercise at a firearms range. Forsyth was allegedly wearing a Kevlar vest at the time, but the bullet entered from the side where there was no protection.
- South Carolina police officer, Michael Slager, charged with murder after video emerged showing him shoot a fleeing suspect in the back 8 times, and planting evidence at the scene. Slager had initially attempted to shoot the man, Walter Scott, with a taser, but resorted to his handgun when that failed. After Scott collapsed, Slager handcuffed Scott (probably dead or dying), retrieved the taser from where it had fallen, and then brought it up and dropped it near Scott's body. Slager later claimed to have attempted to provide CPR to Scott, but the video showed that neither Slager nor a subsequently arriving officer attempted any first aid.
