Ethanol Fuel Hits Wall

Voice of America News reports that the EPA is considering backing off of ethanol mandates. Part of the problem the story notes is that the majority of vehicles cannot handle more than 10% ethanol to gasoline mixture (and there is some evidence that even this amount is harmful to your engine). My guess is that the ethanol guidelines were based on a certain number of Americans being able to replace their cars with newer models able to burn ethanol, but this hasn't occurred due to the poor economy.
