|Guilty of Crimes Against Humanity|
I'm constantly amazed at the petty despotism exhibited by school administrators which I read about and, unfortunately, have encountered. However, this ranks up with the worst of the "zero tolerance" policies followed in many U.S. schools. The Daily Mail reports on a 6 year old expelled because he... wait for it...brings a snack food as part of his lunch. Sacre bleu!
Apparently the media initially reported that the boy was expelled for bringing a package of cheese crackers. The school cried foul, claiming it was much worse than that:
A statement released by the school said it was 'extremely disappointing that the media have been provided with such grossly misleading information which has resulted in them running a wholly inaccurate and potentially damaging story for our school'.
The statement said: 'We have not excluded a pupil for just having Mini Cheddars in their lunchbox, but where there is a persistent and deliberate breach of school policy, such as bringing in crisps, biscuits, sausage rolls, mini sausages, scotch eggs and similar, and all other avenues have been exhausted, the Governors would expect further action to be taken.Chips and cookies! Oh the humanity! Good thing he hadn't brought a chocolate bar--they would have had to evacuate the school and provide emergency counseling to the children.
In a civilized society, people like these administrators would be locked in the stocks for a day.
