Romney Lost by 407,000 Votes in Four States

Because of the electoral college system, the actual margin of loss is not measured by the difference in the total popular vote, but the difference in the votes in the "swing states." Jim Geraghty did the calculation, and it was only about 407,000 votes in four states: Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Colorado. Which, again, points to an issue with voter turnout among the base; it certainly doesn't call for the Republicans to "reach out" and become more like the Democrats in a vain attempt to win over die-hard liberal constituencies (and further alienate the conservative base).
